WOMEN OF BLUES & SOUL

These shows have been such a huge success with standing room only!! Their first Sydney show will be at Leadbelly’s, Newtown on 22nd July 2017.

Rawness and emotion is what strikes you when you hear what Alison Penney plays for you.
She may consider herself a pianist first and this shows in her skills on the keys, but the honest vulnerability in Ali Penney’s vocals has won her many awards.

Alison Penney has also performed with some of the best in the world; Lynwood Slim, Johnnie Johnson, Kid Bangham, Lloyd Jones, Andrew Junior Boy Jones, Todd Sharpville, Chris Cain, Lucinda Williams, Cephas and Wiggins and The Tailgaitors. She was invited to sit in and play with Walter 'Wolfman' Washington and the Palm Court Orchestra in New Orleans. She has also many Australian legends of blues and is currently touring with The fabulous Cyril B. Bunter Band.

Michelle Van Deer Meer is known by her legions of adoring fans as the “Darling” of the Sydney Blues Music Scene. Michelle’s stage presence encourages the audience to be part of the show and everyone leaves the event feeling like they have just been a part of Michelle’s own celebration of some dame fine blues music!

During Michelle’s career she has won the “Best Female Blues Artist” award at the Australian Blues Music Awards. And with her outstanding natural vocal talent Michelle Van der Meer and band were the Standout performances at the “New Blood Blues” series of shows at Birkenhead Point. Then in 2010 winning “The Sydney Blues Society’s- Performers of the Year”.

Michelle and her band also represented Sydney in 2011 at ‘The International Blues Challenge’ in Memphis where Michelle was described as “among the most stunning blues singers active in Australia’s scene today”.

Kerrie Sweeney’s award winning song “Rainin in my Heart” is the song Kerrie is best known for. Kerrie is also the only Australian Blues artist to win back to back awards for ‘Best Female Artist’ at the ‘Australian Blues Music - Chain Awards" and "Best Blues Song of the Year"’ at the prestigious “MUSICOZ” Australian Independent Music Awards’.

Kerrie’s brilliantly diverse and powerhouse vocal ability is often compared to performers like; Dinah Washington, Katie Webster, Etta James. Kerrie’s music is described as a dynamic mix of Blues, Soul and Funk tunes that can have audiences mesmerized by her Spine-tingling ballards or upbeat jump-out-of-your-seat performances.

All I can say is "Get there Early" it’s going to be another fabulous night of blues, soul and funk music bought to you by some of this country’s finest award winning artists, with Kerrie Sweeney, Michelle Van Der Meer and Alison Penney
